Dental Extractions
- Tooth removal is performed when teeth are unrestorable due to large decay or fractures, infections/abscesses, trauma, orthodontic purposes, lack of space (wisdom tooth removal)…etc
- At Lamantia Dental we endeavor to remove teeth as atraumatically as possible in order to preserve surrounding bone and soft tissue for future replacement options.
- We can offer extractions under nitrous-oxide and/or oral sedation.
FAQs
Will my extraction hurt?
Although we endeavor to remove teeth as pain free as possible, at times some patients will experience a pushing or pressure sensation as the tooth is removed. Almost like being squeezed in a big hug.
Will I be in pain after my extraction?
Possibly. After any dental surgery, there may be some bleeding, bruising, swelling or minor discomfort. This can be reduced by following the post-op instructions for pain control and rinsing with warm salt water. Ice pack application can also help to reduce any swelling.
What are my options for replacing my tooth once it has been extracted?
Whenever a tooth, or teeth is removed, there are four main options. 1) removable partial denture 2) implant-supported crown 3) fixed bridge or 4) do nothing and live with a space. Book and appointment with Dr. Lamantia to find out more.
I am taking medications, should I stop them before my extraction?
No. As a general rule, continue to take your medications as normal. There are some medications that can pose some issues with oral surgery such as blood thinners and bone density drugs. If you taking these types of medications make sure to tell your dentist about them well before hand.
What happens if I have more bleeding than normal?
Excessive bleeding can happen for a number of reasons, most often from blood thinning medications or failure of a blood clot to form. Use the provided gauze and bite with firm pressure for 10-30 minutes. A damp tea bag can also help stop bleeding.
